The meaning of Thanksgiving has changed over the years. Pilgrims are long forgotten and eating and giving thanks has taken their place. Although I think we should be thankful all the time, sometimes it’s nice to have this day set aside as a reminder. We get to share a great meal with family and friends and reflect on the last year and how blessed we really are. Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving yourself, or you just need to bring a dish, these tips should be very helpful! Some of the decoration ideas can even just be used for making your home festive for the holiday!
Since food is one of the most important parts of Thanksgiving, let’s talk creative ideas to arrange the food. If your crafting skills are limited, this one is for you. All you need is leaf shaped cookie cutters and blocks of cheese! Set out the cheese and crackers on a cute tray and you have the perfect appetizer! (Just don’t let the crackers touch the cheese, they’ll get soggy)
Another simple idea is using your leftover halloween pumpkins as a dip holder! If you aren’t comfortable sticking the dip right inside the pumpkin, slip a little bowl inside! Just stick the pumpkin in the center of the veggies and you have a rockin’ veggie tray.
Now for some dessert ideas. This time you can use the cookie cutters for actual cookies if you want a simpler dessert idea. There are also many ways to make festive turkeys out of cupcakes, chocolate, cookies, and candy. If your idea of dessert is fruit, there’s also fun ways to make turkeys out of fruit too! Or if pies are more your thing, try mixing it up by using a fun shaped pan!
Now for decorating ideas. Don’t feel the need to go crazy unless you enjoy doing it. Too many make the mistake of putting too much on their plate and then they aren’t able to enjoy the holiday. Something easy and practical is picking up some fall flowers and just arranging them in a fun way. Put them in a gourd or pumpkin or even just in a vase you have lying around.
Wreaths are also a simple way to add decoration. If you don’t want to splurge this year, try and catch one on sale after the season is over. It will welcome the guests and transition into your other decorations!
If you are all about going crazy for holidays then this tip is for you. If you’re setting the table and using place cards, use the sweet little pumpkins. They are cheap and will add a fun touch to the plates. I would recommend getting a gold under plate because they can be easily transitioned into Christmas as well!
