Growing up, girls look forward to their sweet 16 as the biggest day of their life (at least at that time, it sure seems like it) and naturally they want to have an awesome celebration. The first step in this process is ordering the right invitations. In case you missed our post on Monday, we just put up quite a few new sweet 16 birthday invites on our digital store. They are all super cute; they make me want to relive my sixteenth birthday all over again. Kendra already did a great job talking about the invitations in that post, so I’m going to take it from there and talk about some fun ideas that tag along with a few of these invitations!
Let’s begin with my absolute favorite sweet 16 invite: it’s cheetah! Maybe 16 year ol ds now don’t remember the movie Cheetah Girls, but they still know cheetah is the best print in theentire world. Somehow whenever I start coming up with party ideas, I always think of food first. Therefore, my first few ideas involve food. Another one of my tendencies is to assume cake pops are appropriate for every occasion (aren’t they?), so this time they are covered in pink cheetah. My next idea was a crazy over the top cheetah cake, but with an accent of peacock feathers. Now I’m not sure how well cheetahs and peacocks mix in the wild, but design wise I think they make a pretty good match! I also love mixing fun containers for a food table. I think just putting plain old food in vintage glass container or fun bowls makes a world of difference. You’re probably thinking, I know Jourdan, you say this every time, why is this different now? Well because this time you’re going to add cheetah ribbon around them, duh! (of course you could add any color/patterned ribbon depending on your theme and it’d work great) Another hint I have though that also works for a variation of styles, is to get some cheetah duck tape and wrap around water bottles as the label. It’s super cheap and spices up simple water. These are just a few ideas on how to add cheetah print throughout, but there are so many other ways too!
One of our next cute sweet 16 involves pink (of course!). The theme around this invite is think pink. You may choose to base the party off the wonderful Victoria Secret’s Pink collection or maybe just all pink things in general. I think a pink cake is a necessity and obviously pink balloons, etc. However the my favorite idea is using pink lighting. There are many ways to incorporate pink lighting: you could just buy strands of pink lights, you could buy pink light bulbs, or you could even get lava lamps if you wanted to add hippy twist. As far as adding pink the buffet/snack table, I would recommend trying to fill the jars with pink things this time versus just using pink ribbon to tie around the jars. There are tons of different pink candies so it shouldn’t be too hard!
Last, but not least we have glitter themed invite! It is spectacular. Personally I think that glitter and confetti and glittery confetti banners all go swell together. So in order to have a rockin’ party, you should just gather as many of those things as you can and you’ll have the best party ever. Glitter is so easy to use for DIY projects, so just glitter up everything you can think of and it won’t be too much (you can never have too much glitter) Not only should you have all this glitter though, you should also try to capture the moment by having a photographer (aka your husband?) take pictures of everyone throwing up glitter in the air and having a ball!
Hope some of these ideas have inspired you! I know I’m inspired.. can’t wait till the SBD baby girls are 16 so I can use some of these ideas! Remember to check out all our new designs and don’t wait too long to order because your daughter probably wanted these yesterday. 🙂
