Last week, we brainstormed some fun holiday party ideas to help you guys enjoy the holidays! Well now we’re here to discuss how to decorate for the holiday season. Since everyone has their own style, I’ve broken up these ideas into a few different categories.
For starters, I brainstormed some ideas that would be great for a traditional Christmas décor. You cannot go wrong with the classic red and green. One of my favorite ways to incorporate red and green also ties in with a super popular trend right now: plaid. Pick up a couple yards at your local fabric store and you can use it for multiple things throughout the house. It makes a great table runner or wreath holder, and if you’re a little craftier, it will make some great holiday accent pillows. If plaid is too bold for you, consider just picking up some red pillows or throws to add to the couch during the holiday months.
You also can’t go wrong with a chunky garland and red bows for the stairs. However, if you aren’t crafty enough to make your own, consider waiting it out and snatching one up after Christmas, because they can get pretty pricey.
If you still enjoy a more traditional look, but want something more elegant than red and green, consider gold! It is a great color to make your home a holiday oasis. If you’re looking to spice up a mantel, consider adding glitter to some backyard pinecones and string them together to have your own personal garland!
Another easy way to add pops of gold throughout your house is by using gold vinyl stick ons. It gives the allusion that you painted the dots yourself, but without all the effort of measuring perfect circles and then having to repaint over everything later.
If you are looking for something totally new this year, then this color theme is for you. White with many pops of bright colors has becoming increasingly popular over the last few years. The white allows the color to pop out more than the usual dark green. However, if you are really brave, buy a tree that is its own pop of color. Nowadays trees come in almost any color in a variety of shades.
I love the idea of filling clear vases with different colors of glitter. It is a great way to create a focal point on your fireplace mantel without going too bold.
Not to mention, I really wish I had a wood-burning fireplace just so I could add cute little colored fluff balls to a pile of wood.
My last group of ideas is to help you organize all of your holiday mail. With these fun ways to show off everyone’s Christmas cards, you won’t have to feel guilty about just letting everyone’s sweet cards collect dust on the mail table. Whether you glue some popsicle sticks to a mirror or cut slits in a 2×4, these are all great ways to show off your cards and not have to worry about cluttering up your space.
I hope some of these ideas have inspired you to bring the holiday cheer into your home, I know I am off now to go decorate my home for the holidays.
